OS settings: how to enable the microphone in macOS

  1. Open System Settings -> Sound -> Input.
  2. Make sure the microphone appears in the list of input devices.
  3. Check that the input volume is not set to minimum using the Input volume slider.

Check privacy permissions

  1. Open System Settings -> Privacy & Security -> Microphone.
  2. Make sure your browser, such as Chrome, Safari, or another browser, is selected in the list of apps that are allowed to access the microphone.
  3. If the browser is not in the list, click + and add it.
